Agriculture

Our nation’s farmers and ranchers provide food to people across America and around the world. However, for family farmers, the line between business and bankruptcy is getting thinner every day. To overcome this financial crisis, we must take a close look at tax, trade, regulatory, and environmental laws affecting the industry. These policies have a substantial impact on the ability of our family farmers to compete in the world market. There are a host of federal policies that promote an agriculture-friendly environment, including: supporting value-added processing grants; funding research and education activities to reduce production costs; conducting market analysis of the competitiveness of U.S. specialty crops in domestic markets; establishing initiatives to ensure agriculture in the U.S. is free of disease and pests; and passing tax relief measures to reduce the burdens faced by many family farmers. I will continue promoting fair trade and increased accesses to export markets. By supporting policies to reduce regulatory burden on the industry, we can ensure our family farmers are able to compete in a global market.
