Tax Relief

Americans pay too much in taxes, and I strongly support legislation that lets people in the 11th District keep more of their hard-earned money.

I’ve helped Congress pass legislation to extend tax relief for millions of Georgians, eliminate the Death Tax, abolish tax penalties for marriage, and reduce the taxes people pay on investments and earnings.

Congress has done a good job implementing meaningful tax relief, but there’s more we can do. Americans work for nearly 3 and a half months every year just to pay off what they owe the government in taxes. Many Members of Congress still support the tax-and-spend mentality. And all too often, the government thinks it knows how to spend your money better than you do.

For all these reasons, I believe fundamental tax reform is necessary. Our tax system is overly complex, and it undermines productivity. I have co-sponsored legislation (H.R. 25, The Fair Tax Act) to completely eliminate the I.R.S. and create a national consumption tax in its place, with exemptions for "life necessities" such as prescriptions and groceries.
