STEARNS JOINS IN OFFERING RESOLUTION HONORING CONSTITUTION DAY ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2009

“THE CONSTITUTION HAS SERVED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR OVER 200 YEARS”

Washington, Sep 15, 2009 - “On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the document they created – our Constitution,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth). “The Constitution was ratified the next year and is now the longest standing written government charter in the world. I have joined in offering H.Res. 734, a resolution honoring September 17, 2009 as Constitution Day.”

Congress established Constitution Week in 1956 to encourage the American people to learn more about the document, and in 2004, September 17th was designated Constitution Day. H.Res. 734 maintains this tradition each year of recognizing the importance of this document by designating September 17, 2009 as Constitution Day.
