Washington, DC -- Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Sequestration Transparency Act.  Hinchey was one of only two Members to vote against the measure.

"This vote was a joke.  We don't need a new report to know that Republicans' unwillingness to raise taxes on the top 2 percent will lead to devastating cuts in education, scientific research, defense, and other sectors that would have a crippling effect on our economy.

"Last year, congressional Republicans took our country to the brink of default in order to advance their tea party agenda. That's never happened before in our history. Now today, instead of offering up a real way to deal with these problems, Republicans brought up this nonsense bill that seeks to deflect responsibility and shift blame for the manufactured debt limit crisis they imposed on the country. This is par for the course for this do-nothing House of Representatives."
