SCHAKOWSKY SAYS NRA'S LAPIERRE IS OUT OF CONTROL

BLAMING THE PRESIDENT FOR THE MURDER OF  FORMER NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY COACH RICKY BYRDSONG IS DESPICABLE AND INAPPROPRIATE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today called the latest comments by Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association (NRA), inappropriate, sick, and totally out of control.

LaPierre, once again, accused the President of the United States of tolerating violence. He  said that the blood of former Northwestern University basketball coach Ricky Byrdsong is on the President's hands.  LaPierre said last night on ABC news, "Has he looked into the eyes of Ricky Byrdsong's family? Because that blood is on his hand."

"How dare he intrude on this family who has suffered so much?  He owes them an apology and he owes an apology to the people of my district who suffered so much as a result of  the 4th of July shooting spree by a hate monger.  And he most certainly owes the President an apology," Schakowsky said.

"Wayne LaPierre is out of control.  What he said was despicable.  He and the NRA leadership vigorously opposed every law they accuse the President of not enforcing.  And then they have the gall to invoke the names of the victims to play their sick and twisted political game," Schakowsky added.

During the 4th of July weekend, a hate monger went on a killing and shooting spree that left two dead and many wounded.  Many of the shootings took place in Schakowksy's congressional district, including the murder of Ricky Byrdsong.  The House approved a Schakowsky resolution condemning this shooting spree.
