Rep Walberg Votes To Preserve Welfare Work Requirements

Washington, D.C. - Today Rep Tim Walberg voted in favor or H.J. Res 118, a joint resolution he co-sponsored, that will block the Obama Administration’s July 2012 decision to allow states to seek a waiver from the work requirements central to the success of 1996 welfare reform law.

“These work requirements have been the centerpiece for the welfare reform law for the last 16 years and has successfully helped families and individuals get out of poverty and become self sufficient.  In the years following its passage the number of individuals receiving government assistance dropped by 57 percent. I believe the best way out of poverty is a job, and it is critical that our laws promote self-sufficiency and the opportunity of economic advancement for all Americans,” commented Rep Walberg following the vote.
