Help With Federal Agency

One of the most important jobs I have as your Federal representative is my duty to help constituents who are experiencing difficulties with Federal agencies.

If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, my office may be able to help resolve your problem or get you the information you need. While I cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, I will do my best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.

In order to best serve you, please review the following questions to ensure that I am able to assist with your issue.

Do you reside in the 7th Congressional District of the State of Michigan?
Congressional courtesy, ethics rules, and propriety dictate that each Member of Congress has the honor and responsibility to serve his or her own constituents.

Does your case involve a Federal agency?
As your Federal representative, I am permitted to make inquiries of all Federal agencies. However, if your situation involves a state, county or local government agency you will want to contact your representatives at the state level in Lansing.

To contact your state senator in Lansing, please call the Secretary of the Michigan State Senate at (517) 373-2400.  For contact information for your state representative, please contact the Clerk of the Michigan House of Representatives at (517) 373-0135.

Is your inquiry regarding a legal dispute?
As a member of the Legislative Branch, I am unauthorized to be involved in court cases or provide legal advice.

Does this case involve you personally?
Due to privacy laws, I must have written consent from my constituents prior to making an official inquiry.

Once you determine that your case is something I may assist you with, you can fill out a privacy release regarding your case by clicking the link at the bottom of this page and sending it to my office.
Please Note: The Privacy Act of 1974 (5 U.S.C. § 552a) requires that Members of Congress or their staff have written authorization before they can obtain information about an individual's case.  We must have your signature to proceed with this type of request.

In your correspondence, please include all pertinent information and claim numbers —such as:
- Your Social Security number for a case involving Social Security;
- VA claim number for a case with Department of Veterans Affairs;
- Taxpayer identification number (Social Security number, if individual) for an Internal Revenue Service problem, etc.;
- Your address, home phone number, and daytime phone number (if different than home) so that we can obtain any additional information from you that might be necessary;
- Copies of any related documents or correspondence that you may have from the agency involved;

Please contact my Jackson office at 517-780-9075 if you have any questions or wish to follow up on the status of your case.
