(Washington, DC) Congresswoman Corrine Brown gave strong support to President Barack Obama for his statements today regarding the death of Trayvon Martin. “I was very pleased to hear the President’s condolence message to the family of Trayvon Martin, and the way in which his remarks made the death of this innocent young boy very personal by invoking his own children. ‘If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,’ said the President. “As a mother,” continued the Congresswoman, “I can empathize with the Martin family, and my heart goes out to them in their pain and suffering. Certainly, parents across the nation from all ethnic backgrounds are heartbroken when they hear the details of this horrible tragedy.”
“In addition, I have requested that the Department of Justice do everything in its power to ensure that justice is served for Trayvon, and Mr. Perez, the head of the Department’s civil rights division promised Sanford Mayor Triplett and me that the FBI and the Department of Justice would leave ‘no stone unturned’ in their investigation, a point reiterated by the President today when he said that ‘we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.’
