A sad note
marked the start of the August 15th work week. Congresswoman Brown
was traveling the Third Congressional District during the August recess when
she learned that her friend and Pastor of her Orlando area church, Dr. Zachery
Tims, Jr. had passed. Reports of the pastor’s death were shared with the
Congresswoman late Sunday evening and left her and the Orlando community
stunned.
“He was so
young and full of vision for his community. He truly believed in a holistic
approach to ministry. His style was very “new school” but he was deeply founded
in the principles of the traditional church. He dreamed of making a difference
in his community through the Word and through his actions. I am devastated by
the news of his passing,” Congresswoman said.
As the
Senior Pastor, CEO and founder of New Destiny Christian Center (NDCC) his
ministry focused on the love of Jesus Christ and helping the fellow man. His
ministry speaks to the heart of man, with a balance of practical principles for
living a successful and purpose driven life free of sin, sickness, worry, and
debt. It is these tenements that spawned his 25 ministries including
IMPACT, G-Next, Boys To Men, the Girls of Destiny and the Ark.
Dr. Tims
was frequently invited to speak at churches around the country. When Tims was
discovered he was in his hotel room in Manhattan, NY preparing for his most
recent speaking engagement.
In 1996,
Dr. Tims envisioned a ministry that transcends beyond the normal religious
traditions of man. Being sent from his Baltimore church, Pastor Tims and his
family moved to Orlando, Florida. With only six members, they created the New
Destiny Christian Center in a non-traditional church setting with a
multi-cultural mission. Through his passion to touch lives, the church has been
a blessing to countless thousands through its major outreach crusades.
“Pastor
Tims had just completed his annual back to school drive, which was a huge
success bringing supplies to under privileged families and underscoring the
importance and emphasis on education. Education was just one focus of his
ministry. He believed that there are certain areas in a person’s life that
without support they could not thrive and through his ministry he could provide
that help,” said Congresswoman Brown.
In
addition to back to school drives, Dr. Tims organized drives for clothing, food
and toys at Christmas time as well as taking care of the health of the
community by setting up screenings and wellness check-ups. Billboards
throughout the city promote the church as a “Family church meeting family
needs.”
Tims went
through a period of personal discovery and he was called to ministry and never
looked back. From that point on he focused himself simultaneously earning two
Bachelor’s degrees, in Accounting from Towson State University, and another in
Theology from Maranatha Bible College, in Baltimore, Maryland. He holds two
honorary Doctoral degrees from Vision International University and St. Thomas
Christian College for the tremendous work he has accomplished in
ministry. Dr. Tims has written his story, “It’s Never Too Late,” released
through Charisma House Publications.
“Dr.
Zachery Tims is a driven man of God and dedicated father of four beautiful
children, Zoelle, Zachery III, Zahria and Zion. We are better for having
witnessed his short life and will forever be inspired by his loving spirit.”
