(Washington, DC) - Congresswoman Corrine Brown made the following statement:
"It is with the most profound sadness that I received the news of the horrific, senseless attack on my colleague, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her district staff members, and her constituents. This terrible act of violence is tragic for our entire nation, and an extremely sad day for our country.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Congresswoman Giffords, her husband, Captain Mark Kelly, and to the victims and their families. This horrible and cowardly act is an attack on our entire system of democracy, to our form of government, and to our freedom. Certainly, one of the greatest components of American democracy is to be able to resolve conflict through compromise and dialogue, not senseless violence. This is an affront to every member of our government, irrespective of party affiliation. It is, in fact, a direct assault on the central principles of our nation's humanity and democracy."
