Capito Statement On Celebrating Thanksgiving

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va. and her family wish all West Virginians a warm, safe and Happy Thanksgiving:

Thanksgiving is a special time of year to focus on all things we are thankful for, including family, friends and happiness.

I am grateful to live in our beautiful state where people and communities come together, especially in times of need, to lend a helping hand.  I am continually impressed by the selflessness exhibited by so many, as thousands of our neighbors suffered during and after the two storms that rolled throughout West Virginia this past year.  A special thank you to the first responders, utility workers, division of highway workers, volunteers and members of the media who worked around the clock to keep constituents updated and safe before, during and after Derecho and Hurricane Sandy

I am forever grateful to the men and women who serve in the military for their selfless service.  Many families will find an empty seat at the Thanksgiving table this Holiday season because of loved ones serving overseas or, sadly, many have paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting freedom and opportunity for the rest of us. We will always remember veterans, those serving and their families.

I am grateful to have served West Virginia in our nation’s Capitol for six terms; It is an honor I deeply cherish.

From the Capito family to yours, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.  If you are traveling, please stay safe!
