Defense & National Security

Continuing to support our brave men and women in uniform is among Congresswoman Capito's highest priorities. As the daughter of a World War II Veteran she has a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by American service members and their families, and she has pledged her continued support for our military men and women.  She has visited servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as wounded warriors across the U.S. and in military hospitals in Germany.

The Global War on Terror and the ongoing instability of the Middle East has forced our military to play an ever expanding role in promoting peace and democracy.  The Congresswoman believes that terrorism continues to pose a grave threat to all Americans we need to give our military the resources they need to carry out this critical mission.

At the local level, Congresswoman Capito has supported legislation which added the Chief of the National Guard Bureau to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Members of West Virginia’s National Guard and Air National Guard units are among the most skilled in the nation at carrying out their dual role carrying out missions both here at home and abroad.  It is important that their voices are heard at the highest military levels.  Members of the West Virginia National Guard have served with great distinction in the wars with Iraq and Afghanistan abroad and have come to the aid communities and individuals in West Virginia in need of assistance after two major storms impacted our state in 2012.  Congresswoman Capito will continue to support West Virginia’s men and women in uniform – both in the active duty services and in the Guard and Reserve.
