With West Virginia's strong history of military service, caring for America's service men and women could not be more important. Congresswoman Capito is committed to providing West Virginia veterans with the support they've earned through their dedicated service to their country.

The War on Terror which began in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 America has caused a dramatic increase in the number of veterans.  Many veterans of the War on Terror will return home with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  These injuries have made life difficult for many of our veterans and access to proper medical facilities has been tough for veterans who have returned home to rural areas, which is why the Congresswoman Capito has introduced legislation which lets veterans with TBI and PTSD to receive the necessary care they need from a local medical provider.  

The new Post 9/11 GI bill has greatly increased the education opportunities for our veterans, but when the VA was having difficulty paying out their benefits on time Congresswoman Capito joined other members of Congress in demanding that the VA pay out these benefits on time.  Additionally, Congresswoman Capito has consistently voted for bills which will streamline the VA.   Veterans who put their lives on the line do not need to wait months for the benefits they earned to be paid. 

Through her role on the House Financial Services Committee she was able to enhance federal support for the Veterans Affairs home loan guarantee program, providing additional assistance to veterans seeking to purchase a new home. To counter troubling homelessness rates among the nation's veterans, she has also supported legislation to create a new liaison within the Department of Housing and Urban Development specifically for coordinating assistance for homeless veterans.

As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, Capito has worked in a bipartisan fashion to fix a provision in the CARD Act which required credit card companies to issue credit based on individual income. That means anyone who doesn't earn his/her own income, such as a stay-at-home mom or military spouse, will have a much harder time qualifying for his/her own credit card.

Most importantly, Capito remains committed to providing our military men and women with the resources and funding they need during their service, while also ensuring that support stays with them as a veteran.
