Stabenow Leading Effort on Senate Floor to Call for House to Act on Senate-passed Bill that Cuts Taxes for Every American on their First $250,000 of Income
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow is leading her colleagues on the Senate Floor this week to call on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Senate's Middle Class Tax Cut Act. The Senate passed the legislation on July 25, which cuts taxes for every American on their first $250,000 of income and prevents a tax hike for 98% of American families and 97% of small businesses. While Democrats and Republicans say they agree on a tax cut for middle-class families, the House has failed to act on the legislation.
If nothing is done by the end of the year, middle-class families in Michigan and across the country would face an average tax increase of $2,200.
"There are 27 days left to act to stop middle-class families from facing a $2,200 tax hike. Democrats and Republicans both say they agree on cutting taxes for middle-class families, which will keep our economy growing and help Michigan families pay the bills. The Senate came together months ago and passed a tax cut for middle-class families and small businesses. It's time for House Republicans to stop holding the middle class hostage for more tax breaks for millionaires."
