Rep. King: AG Holder’s Investigation of CIA Disgraceful

August 27, 2009

Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to open a criminal investigation of the CIA officials who saved American lives by interrogating al Qaeda terrorists is absolutely wrong and disgraceful. It seriously makes me wonder whose side the Obama administration is on. The President cannot have it both ways. On the one hand he says we must look forward and not backward, while on the other hand he allows his Attorney General to begin a criminal proceeding over interrogations that were conducted years ago. Either President Obama is not telling the truth or he has lost control of his own administration.

We hear allegations of guns and electric drills being used by CIA officials in these interrogations. Let’s be clear what we are actually talking about. The CIA threatened to use the guns and drills but never did use them and never intended to use them. Instead they used these threats to obtain information which prevented countless Americans from being murdered. To me it is a lot more moral to use these threats than allow innocent Americans to be burned to death, crushed to death by falling debris, being forced to jump from the 102nd floor to their death or being vaporized.

This is a defining moment for our country. We cannot abandon the CIA officials who protected our lives just to satisfy the bloodlust of the left wing of the Democratic Party. This is an American issue, not a partisan issue. I will do everything I can to oppose and stop this disgraceful criminal proceeding from going forward.
