Dreier, Colleagues Call for Disaster Aid

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) joined his colleagues, Rep. Judy Chu (D-El Monte) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), in sending a letter to the Small Business Administration (SBA) urging Administrator Karen Mills to declare the County of Los Angeles and the City of Rancho Cucamonga a disaster area in response to the severe windstorms that struck the area beginning on November 30, 2011.

The winds wreaked havoc in the San Gabriel Valley region, which left devastation and suffering in their wake, with many cities’ public and police facilities running on generators, and hundreds of thousands of residents left without power for days.

“We've never seen hurricane-force Santa Ana winds like this,” Dreier said. “The devastation in our community is unprecedented. I will continue to work with local, state and federal officials to ensure that our region receives the assistance it needs. With this request, we're committed to making sure our cities have the tools they need to help families and businesses recover.”

The residents of the San Gabriel Valley face several months of recovery and rebuilding efforts. Many cities directly affected by the winds have declared state of emergencies, including: Alhambra, South Pasadena, Pasadena, San Marino, San Gabriel, Temple City, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Glendora, Rosemead, Arcadia and Rancho Cucamonga. SBA disaster loans are a critical first step to help our friends and neighbors recover and move forward.
