Washington, D.C. –Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) issued the following statement in response to the official unveiling of the American Affordable Health Choices Act.

The rapidly escalating cost of health care has become a serious drag on our economy and a threat to the stability of American families. It’s estimated that in California 18.5 percent of the population is currently uninsured and the average worker’s share of family health insurance premiums nearly doubled from 2000 to 2007. The stability of America’s middle class requires health care reform with affordable, adequate, accessible coverage. Reforming our inefficient health care system is a much needed step in our path toward economic recovery and long term stability. I look forward to working with my colleagues as this historic and vital bill moves forward.
