Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose)
today announced that the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County will
receive over $9 million dollars in federal assistance aimed at
expanding access to affordable housing and reducing homelessness. These
federal grants, which Congress authorized in the recently passed
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, are allocated directly to the
City and County, bypassing state government, to fund local projects.
The City of San Jose is slated to receive $6,829,226 and Santa Clara
County will receive $2,286,123.
"It's important that recovery funds are already flowing to our community," noted Rep. Zoe Lofgren. "These funds will help working families who are victims of the current economy find proper housing. In these troubling times, the ranks of those seeking housing help has increased dramatically. These funds will not only help victims of the recession but will provide an economic boost to the local economy."
