Media Contact: David Thomas, 202.225.3072

Washington, DC – California’s Democratic leaders in the United States Congress and Sacramento will announce at a press conference tomorrow that they have jointly filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit regarding the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the inflated prices Californians were forced to pay during the 2000-2001 electricity crisis.

Californians were improperly overcharged billions of dollars during the crisis as a result of widespread manipulation of California’s energy markets by energy wholesalers and marketers.  On the eve of the release of the Governor’s revised budget, which is expected to contain massive funding cuts, California’s Democratic leaders are united and remain strongly committed to securing these refunds for all Californians.
