San Jose, CA – Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren today joined San Jose in welcoming home the 341st Military Police Company at Moffett Federal Airfield.  The following were Congresswoman Lofgren’s remarks:

“Members of the 341st Military Police Company…Welcome home!  The men and women of the 341st Military Police Company deserve of our recognition, appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifices.  You have served our country with great honor and distinction, and I welcome you back to California.

“You were deployed in Iraq and Kuwait for over a year.  This was a very difficult assignment.  In Iraq, the 341st Company was in charge of clearing and monitoring the main supply route from the Logistical Support Area Anaconda to Baghdad.  You were attacked dozens of times during convoys and patrols, and several of you were injured.

“Each one of you has performed your duties brilliantly, and it has not gone unnoticed.  More than 30 Bronze stars will be awarded today.  Several Purple Hearts.  120 Army Commendation Medals

“We are all so proud of your commitment, and are thrilled that you are finally home!  Thank you to the families who had to sacrifice so much during your absence.  It is never easy to be apart from loved ones – and especially for such a long time.  I have just one more request for the families: tonight, make sure the troops get a nice home-cooked meal!

“As happy as this event is, we must not forget those who still remain overseas serving under very trying circumstances.  They will continue to do their job and we salute their patriotism.

“Finally, we must remember those who have paid the ultimate price while serving their country.  We will never forget those who have died, and we must always support the families who have suffered such a terrible loss.

“Today I am pleased to present to the 341st a US flag that was flown over the United States Capitol earlier this week.  It was flown to honor all of you.  The certificate reads….

    • “This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on June 17, 2004 at the request of the Honorable Zoe Lofgren, Member of Congress.  This flag was flown for the 341st Military Police Army Reserve Company for their service to the nation.”

Alan M. Hantman,

Architect of the Capitol

“Again, thank you for your service and welcome back to California!”
