Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren released the following statement after President Bush ordered military action against Iraq:

“President Bush has decided to direct the armed forces of the United States to attack Iraq. With our troops in the field, it is important that they know they have the support of every American as they discharge their duties.

“Many Americans had doubt about the wisdom of this course of action, but all should now hope for a swift military victory. While the long term implications of this action for the safety and security of the United States will not be completely understood for years, all should agree on this: Our prayers are for the safety of our men and women in the military service at this solemn time. Our respect for each of them is deep. Our thoughts are also very much with their families back here at home.”
