Visiting Washington, DC

Note - Due to the closing of my physical office in Washington DC, I am no longer able to schedule tours for the remainder of this year. If you are interested in a tour for 2013, my office can take your information and will pass it on for handling by incoming Congressman, Bill Enyart.

Please direct all questions to my Belleville District Office at 618-233-8026.

Tours are currently available for the White House, the Capitol, Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the National Cathedral and the Supreme Court. All of the Smithsonian museums are open. All of the national monuments and memorials on and near the Mall are open.

Due to post-9/11 security concerns, tours of the White House are extremely limited. Requests should be made at least six months in advance and there are no guarantees tours will be available. My office is not notified of availability until at least one month before the date requested. Also, all tours are subject to sudden cancellation.

Capitol tours can be scheduled on a limited basis. Tours are available Monday through Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Capitol Visitors Center provides a weather-protected space to learn more about the Capitol and the Congress. The Visitors Center offers an introductory film, numerous exhibits and amenities such as a 500+-seat restaurant. The Capitol and Capitol Visitors Center are open on all Federal holidays except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Inauguration Day, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

School groups and other groups over 30 people should contact my office at least 6 months in advance to schedule a public tour.

Visitors are not permitted to bring the following items into the Capitol: any bag larger than 14" wide x 13" high x 4" deep; aerosol containers; any pointed object (i.e., knitting needles, letter openers, etc. (Note: pens and pencils are permitted.); cans and bottles; electric stun guns; martial arts weapons or devices; food or beverages of any kind; guns, replica guns, ammunition, and fireworks; knives of any size; mace and pepper spray; non-aerosol spray (prescriptions for medical needs are permitted); razors and box cutters.

If you would like more information, or would like to make reservations for Congressional tours, please contact one of my offices or fill out the tour request form and fax it to (618) 233-8765.
