Rep Honda on Republican Achieve Act PDF Print E-mail

Rep Michael Honda, Immigration Taskforce Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, issued the following statement today:

“After record turn-out by Asian and Latinos voters, Republican leadership in the House and Senate are hoping to redeem themselves after decades of opposition toward bipartisan efforts to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. Senators Jon Kyl and Kay Bailey Hutchison’s ACHIEVE Act falls short of redemption. Unlike the DREAM Act, ACHIEVE does not provide a path to citizenship. According to national exit polls, sixty-five percent of all voters support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. We must listen to the electorate and forge strong and fair immigration policy. Throughout our country’s history, immigrants have built our infrastructure, fueled our economy through entrepreneurship, and made vital social and cultural contributions. Let’s honor those contributions by passing comprehensive reform that provides a path to citizenship. Avenues to citizenship will bring immigrants to civic life and maximize their contributions.”
