(Washington DC) – Today U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement after opposing cloture on S. 1660, the American Jobs Act of 2011.

“As the Obama Administration tries to push another one of its trademark stimulus plans through Congress, I have just one question, ‘Is this working?’

“Since the first stimulus, unemployment in Nevada has risen from 10.1% to the nation’s highest at 13.4%. Like I suggested to President Obama, Nevada needs a proposal that reforms the tax code, stops excessive government spending and provides the certainty businesses need to hire.  Instead, this plan recycles the same failed policies, but this time increases taxes on the businesses we need to create jobs,” said Senator Dean Heller.

Four out of five people affected by the 5.6% surtax increase are businesses owners.

On August 31, 2011, Senator Heller sent a letter to President Obama outlining what Nevadans want and need in any new jobs plan.  A copy of that letter, which has never been acknowledged by the White House, can be read here.
