On December 5th, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the case of Chafin v. Chafin, which deals with Kansas native Jeff Chafin’s fight to bring his daughter back to the Unites States. Jeff Chafin exemplifies the best in our U.S. Army, is a dedicated and loving father, and Sen. Moran had the honor to visit with him and his family on Thursday.
On Thursday, September 20, Sen. Moran had the pleasure of meeting the 2012 Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals (KASSP) "Principals of the Year," Mike Berblinger, principal of Buhler High School, and Dale Brungardt, principal of Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School. These men are outstanding educators and Sen. Moran was proud to have them representing Kansas at the MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals National Principal of the Year program in Washington, D.C. this week. Mike’s wife Sarah and Dale’s wife Beth were able to make the trip too.
Meeting with Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh III
This week, Sen. Moran meet with the new Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Mark Welsh III. In the meeting, Sen. Moran demonstrated to Gen. Welsh that Kansas strongly supports the fielding of KC-46A tanker aircraft at McConnell Air Force Base and expressed his belief that McConnell AFB is the best choice for Air Force mobility because of its operational advantages and the quality of life the greater Wichita community offers service members and their families.

Sen. Moran Congratulates 4-H Photography Contest Winner
On March 14, 2012, Sen. Moran welcomed Kyle Deaver and his parents, Mike and Carol Deaver of Garden City, to Washington. In Kansas, more than 6,600 young people participate in 4-H programs and 2,000 of those students entered their photos into the 4-H photography competition at the state fair this year. Two hundred photos were given "purple" achievement and 30 were ultimately chosen to be presented to a member of Congress to hang in their office. Kyle's impressive photo of the Vietnam War Memorial will hang in Sen. Moran's office for the next year.

Sen. Moran Reviews Eisenhower Memorial Design Progress
As a member of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission I had an opportunity this week to review progress on the proposed design of a memorial honoring the president and general. The new design will more prominently feature Eisenhower's home of Abilene as the backdrop for his story and will pay tribute to the role the community played in his upbringing.

On Tuesday, June 28th, Sen. On Tuesday, I attended the Biotechnology Industry Organization's 2011 International Convention in Washington, D.C., to meet with Kansans in attendance and to cut the ribbon opening the Kansas Pavilion on the convention floor.

On June 21st, 2001, Sen. Moran met with Rex Tai, a recent graduate of Blue Valley North High School in Leawood, and his family to congratulate him for being selected as a 2011 United States Presidential Scholar. Since its creation in 1964, the Presidential Scholars Program has honored graduating high school seniors for academic excellence, artistic accomplishments, and civic contributions. Rex was one of only 141 students to receive this prestigious award this year.
