Visiting York County

York County was created in August of 1749, and is named either for the Duke of York, or for the city and shire of York in England. The city of York served as America's first capital, and was home to the Continental Congress from September 1777-June 1778.

Today, York County is home to 381,751 residents. The city of York serves as the county seat, and is home to Congressman Todd Platts.

York County offers visitors a variety recreational activities, including factories to tour, farmlands to admire, and the world-famous Harley Davidson Motorcycle Museum to explore. And for those who prefer the great outdoors, the county's three state parks offer visitors a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, fishing, boating, golfing, and skiing.

For more information and a map of the county, check out the Pennsylvania Visitor's Network. The site offers a comprehensive history of the county, as well as a complete listing of attractions, lodging, restaurants, and places of worship.

That site also lists the communities within York County, and has detailed maps for each community.
