Key Issue: Crime & Justice
The first responsibility of government is to protect its citizens.
Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties have not achieved their low crime rate by accident. It is the product of well-trained and equipped law enforcement agencies that have the support of its citizens, a no-nonsense judiciary that has gained a reputation for tough sentencing, and businesses and citizens who care and take a strong role in their communities.
That is not to say our communities are free of gangs, drugs, and other criminal elements. For that reason, we must remain one step ahead of the criminals.
During my entire time in public service, beginning when I was a councilman and mayor, I have been a strong supporter of law enforcement. I continue to do ride-alongs with local police officers. I was the first non-lawyer selected to serve on the House Judiciary Committee. And I continue to work to provide law enforcement agencies on all levels with the tools they need to keep our communities safe.
