Nov 30, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andrews announced that Lockheed Martin in Moorestown was awarded a $60.2 million contract modification that will keep 3,000 people working in South Jersey on a high-tech missile program for the Department of Defense.  As a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Andrews was a strong supporter of the President’s budget which included funding for this system, not only because of its ability to save the lives of service members and civilians, but also because of the boost this work provides our local economy.

Workers at Lockheed Martin in Moorestown will be able to continue the engineering, modernization and production of the Aegis Combat System (ACS), which uses an integrated network of advanced sensors, computers, and weapons to destroy incoming threats.  Known as "the Shield of the Fleet", the high-powered radar component performs search, tracking, and missile guidance functions simultaneously, protecting the fleet from a variety of threats, including ballistic missiles.

“This contract is welcome news for the South Jersey economy and the hard working men and women at Lockheed Martin in Moorestown,” said Congressman Andrews. “As members of the Armed Services Committee, Congressmen Runyan, LoBiondo and I will continue to work together to strengthen our national defense and bring jobs to South Jersey.”

Keeping jobs in South Jersey is a top priority for Rep. Andrews, and Lockheed Martin is one of the region’s largest employers.  Rep. Andrews remains committed to supporting our troops by giving them the best tools in the field to get the job done and secure the safety of our nation.
