Washington, D.C. – Congressman Rick Berg today spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives to express appreciation to the people of North Dakota for allowing him to serve as North Dakota’s Congressman for the 112th Congress.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude for giving me the opportunity to be North Dakota’s voice in the United States House of Representatives for the past two years,” stated Berg.  “Serving the people of North Dakota in Congress was the experience of a lifetime and it is something that I will always look back on with pride and appreciation.  I am not sure what lies ahead but I’ll say this, it’s going to be great spending much more time back home in the great state of North Dakota.”

Berg also stressed the importance of setting aside partisan politics to address the fiscal challenges that the country faces.

“I ran for Congress because I believed, and continue to believe that we must create an economic climate that brings stability and certainty to private sector job creators,” continued Berg.  “My faith in the Democratic process is unwavering, and I truly believe that America has bright days ahead.  I am hopeful that in the days, weeks, and months ahead we can finally come together, not as Democrats and Republicans, but as Americans who are concerned about the future of our country to tackle the challenges we face.”

Born and raised in North Dakota, Berg was first elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1984, where he served until assuming office in the United States House of Representatives on January 3, 2011.  Berg and his wife Tracy, a physician practicing family medicine in Fargo, have one son, Jack.  They are actively involved in their community, and support a number of organizations, including the American Red Cross, YWCA, Fargo’s Hope Lutheran Church and NDSU’s Farm House Fraternity.
