  1. Just received word that we have lost one of my dear friends and colleagues, Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. Sen. Inouye was a staunch ally of all Alaskans, and his loss will be deeply felt, particularly by the indigenous peoples of whom he was such a champion.

I had the honor of meeting Sen. Daniel Inouye in 2010. I told him I worked for Mark Begich to which he responded: "Good man. Mark Begich is a good man."

Please call Sen. Mark Begich's office at 907-271-5915 and let him know you support efforts to allow responsible gun owners to do just that, while we work as a society to keep guns out of the hands of those who cannot or should not have a gun. Our American Gun Culture is sick, and it needs medical attention. We can and MUST evolve. I have been shooting guns since I was 5 or 6 years old. I hunt big and small game, and I love target shooting with pistols, rifles, shotguns. I own a pistol-grip shotgun, a 300 Win-mag, a 38 and a 44 mag. I will never forget the incredible responsibility that comes with loading a gun and pulling the trigger. Until you've fired one, it is hard to understand the permanence and power guns offer. Congress and the President can either do something to help heal our nation, or they can kick the can down the road. The latter choice will do nothing to bring this body closer to health and happiness. Thank you.

"People were apparently calling TV stations across the country complaining that the vigil tonight for the shooting victims and the President's speech were pre-empting football. That, my friends, is what is wrong with this country. When we are more concerned about football than paying respects to more than two dozen shooting victims-- most of them children. I am sickened." ~ J. Julie Hasquet

    • THANK YOU, Senator Begich, for having voted YES on ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Even though we lost this time around, I appreciate your joining millions of Americans with disabilities (like me) and veterans (like my grandfather was) in supporting the CRPD. Of course please do vote "yes" when this comes up for a vote again in 2013.

  3. I am deeply saddened by today’s awful shooting in Connecticut. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the 26 victims whose lives were lost this morning as well as those injured. This was a deplorable act of violence on some of our most vulnerable individuals who are children and my condolences are with the Sandy Hook community today as they face this tragedy

  12. Despite the critics and naysayers who want to say otherwise, today's announcement that the US economy has added 146,000 jobs and that unemployment fell to 7.7% is yet another positive sign of economic growth.
This is great news for Alaska families just before the holidays. I also hope this is serves as a reminder to those who are playing politics with the middle class tax cuts of just how far we have come and why can't turn back now. We must keep moving forward.
