Sen. Begich and his staff will head out across Alaska this month, meeting with Alaskans, visiting small businesses and getting ideas for new job growth in communities from Tanana to Kodiak.  Check out our daily blog of the tour here.

Staff will also set up "mobile offices" to hear from Alaskans in nearly 60 Alaska communities during the month of August. To find out when the Begich Growing Alaska tour will be in your area, zoom into your location on the map below:

Anderson & Cantwell

Anderson and Cantwell- August 22, 2012

From Stef Claus, Legislative Correspondent

In Cantwell, Janelle and I kicked off our Mobile Office at the Broad Pass Café. We heard from small business owner and borough assemblyman Gordon Carlston and other Cantwell residents about subsistence, parks, and contracting issues. We also enjoyed owner Jennifer Frank’s famous fries. Janelle and I saw the two windmills financed by the Recovery Act, supported by Senator Begich, which now power Cantwell’s tribal hall.

We made at stop at Tatlanika Trading Post, where we chatted with employee Jamie Wagner, who both Senator Begich and I had met previously in DC. In her capacity as a teacher with the Anderson school, Jamie led a group of students from Anderson and Cantwell in their Close Up trip to DC. I knew she looked familiar.

In Anderson, we enjoyed clear skies and heard from residents about Eielson Air Force Base, veterans’ issues, Pebble Mine, and Medicare. It’s been a delight to talk with so many Alaskans in this beautiful part of our great state.
