STEARNS RECEIVES "SPIRIT OF ENTERPRISE" AWARD FROM THE US. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

AWARD PRESENTED TO STEARNS FOR LEADERSHIP IN PROMOTING ECONOMIC GROWTH AND JOB CREATION

Washington, Mar 26, 2009 - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today presented Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth) with its Spirit of Enterprise Award. “In the face of unprecedented economic challenges and in the midst of an election cycle, this Congress made some historic and courageous decisions that impacted the lives of every American,” stated Thomas J. Donohue, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber. “The Spirit of Enterprise Award identified those lawmakers that truly stepped up to the plate and demonstrated real leadership in making this country a place where business can continue to grow and create jobs. The Chamber is proud to present Representative Stearns with the Spirit of Enterprise Award on behalf of businesses large and small.”

“The American people are losing their jobs, their homes, and their savings, and we must act boldly in restoring vigor to our economy and in generating permanent jobs,” said Stearns. “I am proud of my long record of promoting economic growth, and I am honored that my efforts are recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.”

The Chamber selected 18 key votes cast in the House of Representatives in 2008 in determining award winners. These votes included passage of the Economic Stimulus Rebate Act, the College Opportunity and Affordability Act, improving anti-counterfeiting and piracy efforts, and revising the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Chamber is the world’s largest business federation, representing more than three million businesses and organizations.
