RED CROSS OPERATIONS (Updated May 4, 2011)

Since March 31, there have been approximately 871 tornado reports in 26 states. According to
NOAA, April 27, 2011, now holds the record for being the deadliest single day for tornadoes
since 1925. As the scope of the tornado damage becomes clearer each day, the American Red Cross remains hard at work to help the thousands of people affected by this disaster.

On Monday night, more than 1,200 people stayed in Red Cross shelters. The Red Cross
currently has 153 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) traveling through seven states to
provide residents hot meals. Sixty-two of these Red Cross ERVs are in Alabama, and more than
a dozen additional vehicles are headed to the state. In addition to providing a comforting meal,
Red Cross response vehicles are also distributing thousands of relief supplies to affected
neighborhoods, such as blankets, toiletries, gloves, rakes, tarps, coolers and shovels.

The Red Cross is working closely with its partners, including the Salvation Army and Southern
Baptist Convention, to set up kitchens where meals are prepared before being distributed to
affected neighborhoods. Five kitchens are currently serving meals in Alabama. The Red Cross
will continue working closely with local, state and federal emergency management..

DISASTER WELFARE INQUIRIES

The Red Cross continues to encourage local residents to use the Safe and Well service to stay in touch with family and friends. As of May 4, 742 affected individuals in Alabama have listed themselves as Safe and Well. If your office receives calls from individuals outside the disaster area who are trying to locate those in the affected areas, please direct them to the American Red Cross Safe and Well website. The site can be accessed by visiting www.redcross.org or www.safeandwell.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Disaster victims may also update their Facebook and Twitter status through the Safe and Well website.
