Dreier Votes to Honor Law Enforcement

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA) voted yesterday in favor of a resolution honoring our nation’s peace officers for their service our communities.  Dreier is a cosponsor of H.Res. 1299, expressing support for the goals and ideals of Peace Officers Memorial Day, which was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to serve our communities,” Dreier said.  “Every May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day, we have the opportunity to thank and recognize these public servants for their hard work, sacrifice and dedication.  I am proud to be a cosponsor of this bipartisan legislation.”

Peace Officer Memorial Day is part of National Police Week, which runs from May 9-15.  The Grand Lodge Fraternal Order of Police will be holding the annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on May 15.  This service will honor the law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2009.

H.Res. 1299 honors law enforcement officers who were killed or disabled in the line of duty and urges the observation of Peace Officers Memorial Day with ceremonies and respect befitting those who have risked their lives or died in service to their communities.  Tragically, 116 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2009, including seven from California.
