WASHINGTON – The House Democratic Caucus re-elected Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (NY-28), to serve as the top Democratic Member of the House Committee on Rules. Slaughter was nominated by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and unanimously approved by her colleagues in the Democratic Caucus.

"I am most appreciative that my colleagues have once again entrusted me with this important position," said Slaughter. "The Rules Committee is the gateway through which legislation reaches the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Having previously served as the first Chairwoman of the Committee and most recently as Ranking Democratic Member, I know firsthand the tremendous responsibility that comes along with this position. I look forward to working with our leadership and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle as we tackle many of the vital issues that our nation faces."

The House Committee on Rules is one of the oldest standing committees in the House, having been formally constituted on April 2, 1789. Slaughter served as the Committee's first Chairwoman from 2007 to 2011.
