Dominion Post: W.Va. reps sponsor anti-carbon tax bill

“Given our current economic climate, this is the worst time to implement another tax on coal, oil and gas — industries that fuel our economy,” McKinley said in a release. “Affordable and abundant electricity from coal and natural gas is essential to our way of living and a carbon tax would increase the cost of electricity and put a financial burden on American families.”

A carbon tax would hurt lowincome taxpayers most of all, McKinley said in the resolution.

The resolution, House Concurrent Resolution 142, is in the House Ways and Means Committee. McKinley’s West Virginia colleagues, Democratic Rep. Nick Rahall and Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, are co-sponsors.

McKinley is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and committee chairman Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Emeritus Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, are also cosponsors.
