New Dems: Next Move, Comprehensive Tax Reform

Washington, D.C. – Today, leaders of the New Democrat Coalition, chaired by Rep. Joseph Crowley (NY-7), released the following statement after their vote against H.R. 8, legislation extending tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans.

“Today, the House of Representatives cast yet another vote in what has become a long list of votes held purely for election-year messaging. With less than 20 legislative days left this year, the American people can’t afford to have Congress playing political games instead of passing bills that create jobs and help stabilize our economy. We need to focus on providing certainty to American families and businesses so that they can continue to grow in these tough economic times.  And we must get to work on comprehensive tax reform that will lower the marginal corporate tax rates, support our nation's domestic manufacturers and innovators, remove inefficiencies and maintain the progressivity of the tax code.”

The New Democrat Coalition core mission is to advance policies that will foster growth and innovation, and it has long said reforming our tax code will help keep the U.S. globally competitive, reduce our nation's deficits and keep American families strong.
