Congressman Rick Larsen is serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rick represents the Second Congressional District of Washington state, which stretches from northern Snohomish County clear to the Canadian border, encompassing all of Skagit, Island, San Juan and Whatcom counties.

Rick serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. These committees enable Rick to focus on the local needs of Northwest Washington.

The Second District is home to Naval Station Everett and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, which are vital to the region’s economy and national security. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rick works hard to support these military bases and ensure that our men and women in uniform get the pay and benefits they deserve and the equipment they need to keep our country safe. Rick is also focused on ensuring that veterans have access to the resources and health care they need and deserve. Rick worked hard with local veterans to open a Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Mount Vernon to make health care and services more accessible for veterans in the 2nd District.

As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Rick is committed to investing in transportation to create jobs and keep the economy moving. Rick supported a number of transportation projects in Northwest Washington that created local jobs including installing sidewalks to schools in Arlington, constructing a new access road in Ferndale, and creating a park and ride lot in south Mount Vernon. Rick will continue to fight to further invest in roads, bridges, highways and transit to create local jobs and build a foundation for future economic growth.

Rick is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Methamphetamine Caucus, which works to fight the meth epidemic in our communities by supporting law enforcement, prevention and treatment efforts. In 2005, Rick fought pass landmark anti-meth legislation that made it more difficult for meth dealers to get the ingredients they need to manufacture meth and helped local law enforcement dramatically reduce the number of “homegrown” meth labs in Washington state.

Rick is also the Co-Chair of the bi-partisan U.S.-China Working Group, which educates Members of Congress on U.S.-China issues through meetings and briefings with academic, business and political leaders from the United States and China. China is the largest and more rapidly growing export market for Washington state. One in three jobs in Washington state is tied to trade, and from 2000 - 2009, Washington state exports to China grew by 379 percent.

The Larsen family has been building a legacy in the Second Congressional District for more than a century. Rick and his wife, Tiia, are the proud parents of two sons, Robert and Per (pronounced “Pair”), who represent the fifth generation of Larsens in the district.
