Energy Solutions

Energy Solutions

With the Middle East practically changing every day – and the price of oil tied to that uncertainty - Americans want, need and deserve real energy solutions that will bring down the price at the pump and reduce our dependence on foreign oil and unstable countries.

Instead of Washington telling people and businesses what to do, I say let’s promote American energy to create American jobs that will spur the American economy.

It is important that the U.S. maintains an "all of the above" energy plan with the ultimate goal of energy independence. Our policy should support increased energy production right here at home from a variety of sources that will reduce our reliance on foreign sources.

I believe we can do this by investing in American energy that is both efficient and environmentally sound by making a commitment to groundbreaking research and advancing alternative and renewable energy technologies. With the U.S. importing over half of our oil needs, America simply must produce more of our own energy.

I have cosponsored a number of common-sense pieces of legislation that would address these issues and put our country on a path towards energy independence and scale back bureaucratic blockades to domestic production.

In addition, in June 2009, I voted against the "Cap and Trade" national energy tax bill, H.R. 2454. This legislation, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, would raise energy prices, kill over 2 million American jobs each year, and create countless new federal mandates.

At a time when our economy is struggling and unemployment hovers around 10 percent, we simply can not impose energy taxes that make everything from transportation to common household appliance usage more expensive.
