Financial Services Committee

Overview of House Committees

Long before becoming President, Woodrow Wilson oberved that "Congress in its committee rooms is Congress at work."  Indeed, much of the work of the House of Representatives is done every day through its twenty-one committees. A lot of the actual writing of bills is done during the committee "markup."  Working on legislation in House committees is an essential aspect of every Representative's job.

When bills are introduced in the House, they are referred to the relevant committee for consideration.  Committees conduct hearings on proposed legislation, hearing testimony from experts and questioning them.  The specific language of a bill is refined and amended in committee, then the committee votes to send the bill to the full House for final consideration and (potentially) passage.  Committees also conduct oversight of federal agencies under their jurisdiction.

My Committee Work

On Committee

I am proud to work on the Financial Services Committee to help Connecticut families and businesses.  I have served on this committee since my arrival in Congress in 2009.

I have written a full description of my Financial Services Committee work in the last and current Congresses.  You can find it listed in the "Issues" menu above or by clicking here.  To summarize: "my responsibility is to work to improve the regulatory apparatus, provide strong consumer protections, and increase access to capital for businesses to support a thriving economy... This Congress, I will work on the committee to enhance transparency and efficiency in the marketplace to increase access to capital and ensure a level playing field to create jobs and sustain a robust economy."

In the current Congress, I serve on two subcommittees as well:
