The time for America's leaders to come up with a comprehensive energy solution is now.

Since 2009 the price of gasoline has more than doubled, rising from $1.53 a gallon to $3.57. At the same time America's dependence on foreign oil has increased. At a time when most Americans are struggling financially they are also enduring ever increasing gasoline prices

America not only has a rich abundance of natural resources but also has the skilled labor force necessary to be energy self reliant. In South Texas, we have the Ports of Brownsville and Corpus Christi to construct and refurbish off shore oil rigs, and refine and as well as wind farms. In addition, located under the ground's surface sits natural gas, which is a clean burning, affordable, and abundant energy source.

I am proud to say that Texas is leading the nation with a renewable energy blueprint, powering seventeen percent of our grid.
