Washington, D.C. — On World AIDS Day, Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Co-Chairs Reps. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS and reflect on the progress made towards containing and treating the disease:

“On World AIDS Day we commemorate all the people who have fought this disease and those who work tirelessly to combat its spread.

“We have made great progress since the discovery of HIV/AIDS in 1981, and we continue to support the research grants and resources that will help treat the virus.

“It is past time to end the stigmas and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.  Ethnic and racial minorities and low-income individuals continue to have additional barriers to preventive care and treatments.

“Thanks to organizations raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, the goal of achieving an AIDS-free generation is within our grasp.  Now is the time to strengthen our commitment to combating this deadly disease.”
