Dold Congratulates the Lovell Center on their Green House Homes for Veterans

NORTH CHICAGO, IL – U.S. Congressman Robert J. Dold (IL-10) made remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Lovell Center’s new Green House homes for veterans.

“We have a commitment to veterans to always honor and remember their sacrifice and service long after they have left the field of battle and retired from service,” said Dold. “The Green House homes here at the Lovell Federal Health Care Center will provide a revolutionary new way to provide long-term residential health care for veterans. They represent a departure from the conventional long-term home and when you combine this with the innovation that is the joint venture between the Department of Defense and the VA at the Lovell Center, there is no question our local veterans will receive the care and support they are due.”

Background Information:

The Green House homes will be part of the Lovell FHCC’s Community Living Center, and are a transformational departure from traditional nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The design gives up to 10 residents their own private living areas and bathrooms, along with a community kitchen, dining and living area.

About the Lovell FHCC: The Lovell FHCC was established Oct. 1, 2010, as the nation’s only fully integrated VA/DoD federal health care center. The center has a dual mission of caring for Veterans and ensuring the medical and dental readiness of U.S. Navy Sailors in the region. They also care for military families and retirees. In fiscal year 2011, the facility treated more than 830,000 outpatients, had approximately 4,000 inpatient admissions, more than 180,000 dental visits, and processed the medical and dental requirements for more than 38,000 U.S. Navy Recruits. The Joint Commission recently named the Lovell FHCC in the top 13-percent of 3,099 nationwide hospitals as a “Top Performer” on key quality measures.
