STEM Education
As I tour the 10th District and talk to small businesses and manufacturers, one thing is clear- they are looking to hire qualified workers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field. Unfortunately, many of our students and those seeking work do not have a STEM background. I have teamed up with local educators and manufacturers to promote STEM education so that manufacturers can hire workers right here at home and so students and job seekers have access to good-paying jobs.
Below are actions that I have taken to promote STEM Education and bring educators and manufacturers together:
- Hosted a conference with Educators and Manufacturers to talk about bridging the gap and ways the two can work together to meet the demands of a 21st century workforce.
- Hosted a STEM Field Trip for students in the 10th District.
- Co-sponsored the American Innovation and Education Act which would allow individuals with STEM backgrounds to work in the United States and meet current needs by local manufacturers. (H.R. 3146; Status - Introduced in the House of Representatives)
- Toured Dynomax and spoke about the need for STEM education.
- Attended STEM Day at the College of Lake County to encourage middle-school aged girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.
- Toured Raytheon Facility in Tucson to learn about their national leadership efforts in STEM Education.
