  1. Sacrificing our environment is no way to fix our debt. Sequestration could make families more vulnerable to harmful pollution and even hinder our ability to fight wildfires. Here’s my take on these mindless cuts: http://bit.ly/UWges5

  2. Today on the House Floor, Democrats are urging Republicans to allow a vote on extending tax cuts for middle class families and small businesses. Click “like” if you want Republicans to do the right thing and protect the middle class while negotiations continue to end this fiscal showdown. #DoTheRightThing
  3. So much for the holiday spirit! Republicans in the Michigan legislature rammed through a bill to strip workers of their right to unionize. Unions built the middle class. Working families deserve better than to be denied their right to bargain for fair wages and working conditions. http://wapo.st/STqRLp

  6. Just spoke with CNN’s Soledad O’Brien about the fiscal cliff. I called on Republicans to work with President Obama on a balanced plan to protect our economy. Middle class families face a $2,200 tax increase if Republicans can’t agree to a bipartisan compromise. See it here: http://bit.ly/UxuQLX

  9. The Supreme Court has decided to hear 2 gay marriage cases. This is a big moment for equality in America. The majority of Americans now support marriage equality and the court has a chance to move us all forward. Gay and Lesbian Americans deserve equal rights now! http://nyti.ms/1291qsa
  10. Our economy added 146,000 new jobs in November! The jobless rate is now the lowest it has been in nearly 4 years. Great news, but we need to keep it up. This isn’t the time for House Republicans to hold the middle class tax cuts hostage to protect tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. http://nyti.ms/UK8Xvb

  12. HUGE win for everyone fighting to end military hazing yesterday. The Senate passed a Defense bill that requires the military to report on how their improving anti-hazing training, tracking, and responses. I had similar language included in the House version that passed earlier this year. Step by step, we’re getting closer to ending this abhorrent behavior, once and for all. http://bit.ly/RESQA6
  13. Kudos to CA Attorney General Harris! Yesterday, she said local police don’t have to participate in Secure Communities – a broken program that sweeps up immigrants who aren’t even criminals. Now L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca says he will no longer take part in the program! We must secure our borders, but we should be smart and compassionate about it too. http://lat.ms/11Gq1oY
  14. I was so excited to take my friend, Dr. Ken Sim, to the White House Holiday Party on Monday. Here are a few pictures from the festivities – they even had a candy replica of Bo! Happy Holidays!

  15. What an honor! I just received a leadership award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, which promotes excellence in teaching. They support my bill to recruit quality teachers in under-served communities. Learn more about it here: http://1.usa.gov/UmCCYY

  16. I want to hear from you. The fiscal cliff will raise taxes on the middle class and slash funding for schools and roads. How should Congress avoid going over the edge? www.chu.house.gov/survey

  17. We need a deficit plan that balances budget cuts with tax increases, so everyone gives a little but no one has to give a lot. Instead, the GOP just doubled down on gutting Medicare to protect tax breaks for yacht owners. The clock is ticking on the fiscal cliff and we don’t have time for this political déjà-vu. http://politi.co/UCoUna
  18. Solving our problems will take compromise. President Obama laid out his plan to grow our economy & deal with our fiscal problems responsibly. Now it’s up to the GOP to meet him half way & put forward their own suggestions. The last thing we need now is more petty partisanship. http://politi.co/RowjaG
  19. Sickening. Army Sgt. Van Bockel is getting just 15 days of hard labor & a demotion for hazing Private Danny Chen! 15 days? He led a group of torturers that ruthlessly hazed Danny for weeks - until he took his own life. This isn’t justice. We must end hazing to protect our troops. http://bit.ly/Vh8aUQ
  20. Great news! Our economy grew by 2.7% between July & September – up from 2%. We need to keep moving forward. We need to invest in a strong middle class: education, job training, and infrastructure. But what we don’t need is Republicans holding the middle class tax rates hostage for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. http://bit.ly/UdXBNB
  21. “It’s all a marketing ploy.” That’s what a top GOP operative from Florida said about so-called voter fraud – it’s just an excuse to suppress the vote. We knew voter fraud wasn’t really happening, but now they’re actually admitting it! We can never let them rob the American people of our voting rights. http://nyti.ms/UqlzHY
  22. “Let me see your papers.” That’s what a police officer told Jim Shee, an Asian American living in Arizona. At 70, he was racially profiled for the first time in his life because he “looked suspicious.” Because of Arizona’s harsh anti-immigrant law, SB 1070, police can stop anyone – Latino, Asian, or whoever – if they think they look foreign. How appalling! This isn’t what America should be about. http://usat.ly/U8b5uu
  23. Holiday shopping is in full swing this Cyber Monday, but a new report shows looming middle class tax hikes would be devastating to our economy. If Congress doesn’t act by this January, a typical middle class family of 4 would pay $2,200 more in taxes! Let’s not hold our economy hostage – let’s extend the middle class tax cuts! at.wh.gov/fz0Fz
