Pelosi, Michigan Members Put Local Delicacies on the Line in World Series Wager

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman John Dingell, Congressman John Conyers, Congressman Sandy Levin, and Congressman Hansen Clarke today announced the details of a friendly wager over the upcoming World Series.  As Members of Congress who represent the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers, and as passionate fans of their hometown teams, they are competing for bragging rights.

If the Tigers win, Leader Pelosi will supply her colleagues from Michigan with an assortment of San Francisco chocolates.  If the Giants win, the Michigan Members will provide the following to the Leader:

  •  From Congressman Dingell, a gift basket from Zingerman’s Deli;
  • From Congressman Conyers, the “Motown Basket,” filled with Detroit-made items like
       Faygo Pop and Better Made Chips;
  • From Congressman Levin, chocolate from Sanders Fudge, Gayle’s Chocolate, and
       Morley Candy, along with Garden Fresh Gourmet salsa and  iconic Vernors;
  • From Congressman Clarke, Coney dogs.

“I look forward to watching an exciting World Series with the Detroit Tigers, but I am confident that the spirit, heart, grit, and determination of this Giants team will bring them and the City of San Francisco another World Series ring,” Leader Pelosi said.  “Detroit may be known for its Motown music, but Tiger fans will only be singing the blues while the Giants faithful celebrate our World Series victory with some fine Michigan delicacies.”

“I’m looking forward to a great World Series between the Tigers and the Giants.  While the Giants may want you to ‘fear the beard,’ they should be afraid to face Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera and reigning MVP Justin Verlander,” Congressman Dingell said.  “I have the utmost confidence in the Tigers and look forward to enjoying some of San Francisco's finest chocolates, courtesy of Leader Pelosi.”

“I will provide the Democratic Leader with a ‘Motown Basket’ of union-made products, filled with items exclusively made in Detroit – Faygo Pop and Better Made Chips,” Congressman Conyers.  “Just like the auto industry, the Tigers are roaring back to the World Series.”

“Leader Pelosi can appreciate a fast pitch, a big bat, and the steady hand of a good manager, and I look forward to enjoying good chocolate again in her Speaker’s office. Let’s play ball,” Congressman Levin said.

“You don’t mess with Motown.  Detroiters hustle harder and get things done.  Our city has all the ingredients for great baseball: toughness, talent, and world-class Coney dogs,” Congressman Clarke said.  “It’s a shame that Leader Pelosi won’t have the opportunity to sample this Detroit delicacy since the Tigers are sure to win.  I will, however, graciously accept her offer of delicious San Francisco chocolates, which will be an excellent complement to the sweet taste of victory.”
