Biography

Congressman Curson was born on November 4, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from high school in 1966, he worked full-time at Libby-Owens-Ford and attended the University of Toledo. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the infantry in Vietnam. Upon returning from service, he began working at Ford’s Rawsonville Plant in Ypsilanti Township where he graduated from apprenticeship to become a journeyman diecast diemaker. He also served as an appointed and elected officer in his local union at Rawsonville.

For the past 39 years, Congressman Curson has served as a UAW representative, with 27 years on the international union staff. His titles have included Director of Special Projects and Economic Analysis, Executive Assistant to V.P. Ron Gettelfinger, Executive Assistant to President Steve Yokich and Executive Assistant to Secretary Treasurer Dennis Williams.

Congressman Curson has held a significant role in hundreds of contract negotiations with many companies, including every Big Three contract since 1982. During the recent auto crisis, he was a member of the task force that negotiated the agreements with Chrysler, Ford and GM to meet the required terms of the federal bridge loan agreements. In Washington, Congressman Curson negotiated the final terms of those agreements with Chrysler, GM and President Obama’s Auto Task Force; he subsequently testified on behalf of the UAW in Chrysler and GM’s bankruptcy court hearings in New York.

Congressman Curson is the youngest of six children. His father was a heavy equipment operator for Lucas County’s Washington Township and his mother spent her life in the restaurant and food service business. Congressman Curson has been happily married to his wife Sharon for 23 years. They have two daughters, Lisa Beard and Katie Curson, one son, David Curson, Jr., one son-in-law, Scott Beard, and two wonderful grandsons, Peyton and Parker.
