War in Afghanistan Claims 2,000 American Lives

Jun 14, 2012 Issues: Veterans

Today we lost the 2,000th American in Afghanistan.  After more than ten long years of war, we must bring this tragic chapter in our history to a close.  It’s time to acknowledge that enough is enough!

The ongoing financial and human costs of this war are indefensible.  We spend millions of dollars in Afghanistan everyday – money that we should be using to educate the next generation of workers, to rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges, and to pay down our debt.

I personally know the grief and anguish that comes from losing a family member in this conflict.  My nephew, Marine Lance Corporal Harry Lew served his country in Afghanistan and he did not come back. We can’t keep losing the best and brightest young Americans to a conflict without an end.

Ending this war will save American lives.  Ending this war will let us focus on fighting terrorism around the globe.  Ending this war will save money at a time when we need it the most.  It is time to end war in Afghanistan, bring our troops home, and begin seriously addressing our real security needs.
