Chandler Named MVP of Congressional Baseball Game

Jun 29, 2012

WASHINGTON (June 29, 2012)—Last night, Congressman Chandler was named co-MVP of the 51st Annual CQ Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game. On a hot evening at Nationals Park, the Democrats defeated the Republicans 18-5 behind the pitching strength of Chandler’s co-MVP, Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA). The game set a new record and raised about $250,000 for local charities.

Proudly wearing a uniform from Berea College, Congressman Chandler started at shortstop and played all seven innings of the game. He finished the night with three hits, a walk, three stolen bases, four runs batted in (RBI), and one perfectly placed bunt.

“On one of the most politically charged days in recent memory, it was great to end the day with a bit of bipartisan fun for a good cause,” said Chandler.

Kentucky was well-represented at the game, as Congressman John Yarmuth and Senator Rand Paul also played for the Democrats and Republicans respectively. Chandler threw out Senator Paul on a close play at first base in the first inning.
