Rep. John Culberson (TX-07) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
“I am deeply disappointed that Chief Justice John Roberts was the deciding vote enabling the Supreme Court’s liberal minority to uphold Obamacare. President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and every Democrat in America now own Obamacare lock, stock and barrel. Our magnificent health care system will now begin to collapse, costs will skyrocket and quality will decline. As Americans begin to be hounded by the IRS to pay tax penalties, voters will know that Democrats are the cause of it all.
“Today’s decision proves that the power of the federal government is limitless. There is nothing left of our individual liberty, and as a practical matter, the Supreme Court decision today upheld the largest tax increase in American history. The decision sets a precedent that the federal government can force us to do whatever it chooses under the guise of a tax. This is wrong and the American people will not stand for it.
“Today’s disappointing Supreme Court decision should energize the Tea Party movement and every freedom loving American to defeat President Obama in the November election and elect a Republican Senate and a Republican House. We must work with a new president to totally repeal Obamacare and replace it with free market reforms to bring down the cost of health care insurance. A Constitutional Conservative majority in Congress will repeal Obamacare and then work tirelessly to restore our individual liberty by getting the federal government out of our lives and out of our pockets.”
